“You will never change your life until you change something you do daily.” – Mike Murdock
Everyone wants to live a secure and comfortable life. We look for safety – a place that feels safe, and then try to stay there for as long as we can. Sometimes, we get too comfortable that we don’t even want to make a move.
What most people don’t realize is that living a comfortable life is not enough to live a happy life. Sometimes, people know that they are living a miserable life, but are too scared to make a move because they’re worried that they might lose everything they have worked so hard for.
You’re sick of being a hairstylist, but you don’t know how to do anything else. You hate your husband for cheating on you, but you’re afraid being alone. These are the kind of stuff you pretend to embrace even as your heart sinks.
When you try to seek advice from the people around you, phrases like “deal with it”, “it’s not that bad” or “toughen up” are the most common response. Because of this, we often decide to stay even though we’re no longer happy. Rather, we simply learn to accept the situation we’re in and stop trying to change the things that is causing us to live an unhappy life.
Oftentimes, the biggest thing that stands between us and what we really want is ourselves. Life is too short to short and far too precious to waste your time going through the safe motions. Remember, the worst part about being afraid of change is to settle for less than you deserve.
You may have dreamt of starting your own business, but you can’t do that if you’re too afraid to leave your 9 to 5 job. Yes, leaving a steady pay check and working for yourself is a big risk. But if that’s what it takes to fulfill your dream, then go ahead and give it a try.
