As overscheduled as our lives are today, it can be challenging to find time for yourself. We know we need an alone time, but sometimes, it’s hard to give ourselves permission to take time away.

Stop feeling guilty for taking me-time. Here are 3 reasons why you shouldn’t feel guilty for prioritizing yourself.

Your oxygen mask goes first

We all know that being a mom is not an easy job. Raising kids and doing chores while working full time will drive you crazy.

Taking time away can help you rest, recharge, and will keep you sane. Without it, you will lose your shit. And when that happens, nobody will eat dinner or see a clean pair of socks or underwear until the end of time.

Stop feeling guilty for taking me time. You need to take care of yourself first so you can take care of your family.

Everyone needs down time

You need to take a break once in a while – away from anyone and anything who needs you. It’s really a requirement, not an option.

It’s not easy to squeeze in some alone time into your busy schedule, but I encourage you to do so. For some, two hours a week is enough to keep any remnant of sanity. For others, an hour a day is the mandatory minimum. If watching Netflix and eating a bag of chips will recharge you, then by all means do it.

Small reboots lead to happier restarts

When you’re overworked, your attitude and behavior changes. Your relationship with others is also affected. The people around you can sense that something is wrong, but they may not be able to understand why you’re acting that way.

Taking time for yourself doesn’t make you a selfish mom. It’s about giving yourself permission to let your guard and down do things you love. This, in turn, can have a positive effect on the quality of your relationship with others. The next time you get a chance for some alone time, enjoy it.
