With spring finally here after a long and brutal winter, we suggest that you spend some time outside and take a break from work for at least a few hours.
A lot of people I know have Nature Deficit Disorder. Never heard of it before? That’s a term used to describe people who do not spend much time outdoors.
Too exhausted from work, most people would consider watching TV as their form of relaxation. If you know me, then you probably know that I urge people to go outside and experience what nature has to offer. Despite the effort, I realize that there are some people who may need a little push.
Here are some reasons why you should be spending more time outdoors.
Stress relief
Studies suggest that getting out and communing with nature makes us feel more energetic and rejuvenated. If you’re feeling tired or worn out, then go outside. Get some fresh air, feel the wind and the heat of the sun, smell the trees and listen to birds.
There are also a few activities that are scheduled this month here in Boulder. You might want to check them out. Visit the Boulder Farmer’s Market, where you’ll find a wide variety of Colorado-grown produce, fresh fruits and vegetables. You can also enjoy a traditional tea service at the Dushnabe Teahouse.
It provides a great form of exercise
Let’s face it. Going to the gym sucks. Yes, exercise is an important component of our overall health, but hitting the gym isn’t really fun.
Go outdoors and hit the road. You can run, ride the bike or hike. With Boulder’s amazing view of the Flatirons, you get all the benefits of exercise without feeling like you’re exercising at all.
Nature is the most action-packed thrill ride of your life
It is a scientific fact that people who spend time in nature get more action – from surfing, to rock-climbing, hiking, skiing, you name it.
Boulder is a hiker’s haven, offering a lot of opportunities to hit the trails no matter where you’re from. Come on out. There’s never a dull moment when you’re outside.
