With more than a third of the global population confined to their homes, it can be hard not to feel overwhelmed by the state of the world at the moment. A lot of people are looking at a boring, lonely weeks of waiting until the worst of the coronavirus has passed.
What can you do to manage your stress levels and stay sane during quarantine? Here are 4 ways to help you find normalcy in a crazy time.
Stick to a routine
It can be tempting to fall into a lethargic lifestyle when you’re stuck at home. But during this time, routine is your friend.
Sticking to your normal routine can keep moods lifted, prevent boredom, and prevent stress from taking over.
Try and maintain some semblance of structure from the pre-quarantine days. Change out of your pajamas and shower. Create a list of things you need to achieve each day.
Use your time productively
If you only see the negative side of quarantine, then it will feel like prison. But being quarantined can be a “good thing”.
Oftentimes, people say they are busy. They spend majority of their time at work that they don’t have time to pursue things they are passionate about. Use this as an opportunity to focus on accomplishing things you may have put off due to your busy schedule. Finish that project you’ve never had time to work on.
Stay social
Just because we are asked to maintain social distance, it doesn’t mean you can’t keep in touch with family and friends. Get in the habit of calling them everyday. If you’re locked up at home with your family, then put down your mobile devices and spend some quality time with them.
You probably have some friends or relatives you haven’t talked to because you were too busy. This is the perfect time to catch up with them. Reach out to at least one person a day you don’t regularly check in with. Let them know they’re on your mind.
Exercise
Your gym is probably closed right now. But that doesn’t mean that exercise shouldn’t be a part of your routine.
Exercise increases your overall health and your sense of well-being. Even 10 to 15 minutes of aerobic exercise can stimulate anti-anxiety effects and make you feel healthy and energized.
You don’t need any equipment to get a great workout at home. You can follow some workout videos, dance, or go up and down the stairs.
